The Society

Est. MMXV

What began in 2015 as an initiative of Jesper Tuinman has, over the years, acquired the character of tradition. The premise was simple enough: Christmas, properly observed, required good company, proper dress and an evening set apart from the ordinary.

The first edition was held at Ron Blaauw Oriental in Amsterdam. Since then, SUX has moved through restaurants, clubs, boats and islands, with each edition adding its own stories and customs while leaving the essential idea largely untouched.

In 2026, the Society gathers for Edition XI.

Jesper Tuinman

SUX was founded by Jesper Tuinman in 2015. His original proposition provided the foundation for what would become an annual tradition and, eventually, an institution of perhaps greater ceremony than originally anticipated.

He remains the Society’s Founder and one of its most devoted custodians, charged less formally with ensuring that certain standards, particularly those concerning wine, are not allowed to deteriorate.

Seven at the centre

Over the years, others have occasionally joined the table. The composition of the wider company has therefore never been entirely fixed.

At its centre, however, the Society has remained remarkably consistent. Seven members have formed its enduring core, returning across the editions and carrying with them the stories, habits and increasingly unnecessary customs from one year to the next.
